Vande Bharat train
Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday (11 January) shared a video showcasing the new Vande Bharat Express train, which is set to operate on the Katra-Srinagar route, linking Jammu to the Kashmir valley.
The 49-second video, shared on Vaishnaw's X account, gives a glimpse of the features of the train which is specially designed to operate seamlessly in the harsh winter conditions of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Railway officials, the train includes additional features compared to the 136 other Vande Bharat Express trains currently operating across India.
These enhancements ensure it meets the operational and passenger requirements of J&K's extreme weather.
Advanced heating systems in the train prevent water tanks and bio-toilet tanks from freezing, provide warm air for the vacuum system and laboratories, and maintain the air-brake system's functionality for seamless operations even in sub-zero temperatures.
With the commencement of the final safety inspection for the 111-km Banihal-Katra section in the newly constructed Jammu division, rail commuters can now expect a world-class travel experience on this route later this year.
The Jammu station is also undergoing redevelopment to include eight platforms and modern facilities.
Vaishnaw has announced that the long-awaited train service connecting Jammu and the Kashmir Valley will commence shortly.
The completion of the Banihal-Katra section in the Jammu-Kashmir rail link has been an engineering marvel in which 97 kilometres of length is the tunnel and 7 kilometres of distance is covered by 4 main bridges.
