PM Modi planting Sindoor sapling (X@narendramodi)
On the occasion of World Environment Day today (5 June), Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a sapling of the Sindoor tree gifted by a group of women during his recent visit to Kutch, at his residence in Delhi.
Sharing some glimpses and calling it a symbol of women's strength and inspiration, Modi wrote on X, “The brave mothers and sisters of Kutch, who set an amazing example of courage and valor in the 1971 war, recently presented me with a Sindoor plant during my visit to Gujarat. Today, on World Environment Day, I have had the privilege of planting that plant in the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi. This plant will remain a strong symbol of the valor and inspiration of the women power of our country.”
According to a report by Mint, Prime Minister Modi, at a public event in Bhuj on 26 May, met 13 surviving women known as 'Viranganas' and sought their blessings.
These women, now in their seventies, had supported the Indian Army by helping rebuild the Bhuj airfield.
In a related announcement, officials said a memorial forest named Sindoor Van will be developed near Bhuj to honour Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Spread over eight hectares at Mirzapar village, the park will feature 80,000 plants and themed zones dedicated to the Army, Navy, Air Force, and BSF, blending ecological conservation with a tribute to national valour.
