Tumakuru Metro Project Moves Forward As Government Clears Next Phase Of Planning

The metro rail link between Bengaluru and Tumakuru is a step closer to becoming reality, with the state government formally approving the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR), according to a The Hindu report.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed on Monday (29 September) that the government had accepted the feasibility study for extending Namma Metro from Madavara to Tumakuru, which had been announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the 2024–25 Budget.
“Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) was entrusted with the task and subsequently invited tenders worth Rs 3 crore for the study. A Hyderabad-based company was selected to carry out the work and it had now submitted its report to the government,” Parmeshwara was quoted as saying.
Following this, the state has instructed BMRCL to prepare a fresh DPR under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
“In the first phase, the project is estimated to cost Rs 20,649 crore, with several private firms already expressing interest. To facilitate this, the government issued an order on 25 September instructing BMRCL to prepare the DPR afresh, also at a cost of Rs 3 crore, for the 59.6 km metro line from Madavara to Tumakuru,” Parameshwara added.
The 59.6 km extension will begin from Madavara, part of the Green Line that links Bengaluru’s north-western suburbs with the city’s southern areas.
At present, the metro network consists of three operational lines: the Green Line covering 33.46 km, the Purple Line stretching 43.5 km from Whitefield to Challaghatta, and the Yellow Line spanning 18.8 km between Bommasandra and Electronic City.
