Just before assembly elections, Bihar’s railway network received a major upgrade with the inauguration of seven new trains, including three Amrit Bharat Express services, from Patna Junction.

The event was led by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, while Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined the programme via video conferencing.

The three newly introduced Amrit Bharat Express trains are set to link 25 districts across Bihar, with 62 scheduled halts, substantially improving travel options for passengers in the state.

Emphasising the progress made in Bihar’s railway network, he noted that what was once a budget of just Rs 1,000 crore has now risen tenfold to Rs 10,000 crore.

He added that the entire railway system in the state has been electrified, nearly 1,900 km of fresh tracks have been commissioned, and several other key projects are currently in progress.

Before the launch, 12 such trains were in operation nationwide, of which 10 were from Bihar. With three new services added, the total rose to 15, with Bihar now hosting 13 of them.

Three New Amrit Bharat Express Services

  • Muzaffarpur–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express (Weekly): The first Amrit Bharat service from Muzaffarpur to South India, running via Hajipur, Patliputra, Ara, Buxar, Prayagraj Chheoki, Jabalpur, Itarsi, Nagpur, and Kazipet.

  • Darbhanga–Madar Amrit Bharat Express (Weekly): Linking north Bihar with Rajasthan, this service will run via Sitamarhi, Raxaul, Gorakhpur, Gomti Nagar, Kanpur, and Jaipur.

  • Chhapra–Anand Vihar Terminal Amrit Bharat Express (Twice Weekly): The sixth such train from Bihar to Delhi, operating via Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Kanpur.

These state-of-the-art trains feature semi-automatic couplers, sealed gangways, fire detection systems, and talk-back units, extending advanced technology to non-AC coaches for the first time.

Four Passenger Train Services for Regional Needs

Alongside, four new passenger trains will improve local travel: Patna–Buxar, Jhajha–Danapur, Patna–Islampur, and Nawada–Patna via Sheikhpura–Barbigha.

Notably, the Nawada–Patna route fulfils a long-standing demand of residents in the Barbigha–Asthawan–Bihar Sharif region.
