Indore Metro: First Segment Casting For Underground Section Begins

The Indore Metro Rail Project reached a significant milestone on Dhanteras, as the first segment casting for its underground corridor officially began on Saturday (18 October).

The ceremony was led by S Krishna Chaitanya, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), who initiated the casting work at the dedicated yard and reviewed progress on-site.

During the inspection, he stressed the need for quality construction, strict adherence to safety norms, and minimal disruption to commuters during the project’s execution, according to Free Press Journal.

Following the inauguration, Chaitanya undertook a field inspection along the Priority Corridor, travelling by metro from Super Corridor-02 Station to Vijay Nagar Station.

His review covered system installations, track structure, and station readiness at key points such as Malviya Nagar Station, ensuring that the civil and system works remain aligned with schedule targets.

Later in the day, a detailed progress review meeting was held at the Gandhinagar office, attended by officials from MPMRCL, civil and system contractors, and general consultants.

Discussions centred on the advancement of both the underground and priority corridors, with upcoming deadlines and targets finalised.

Chaitanya directed teams to uphold construction quality while meeting project timelines to ensure operational efficiency upon commissioning.

The underground construction, managed by the Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd. and Tata Projects Ltd. (HCC–TPL JV), covers an 8.626 km stretch of the Yellow Line, linking Indore railway station and Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport.

Under Package IN-05R, the joint venture will build twin tunnels and seven stations including Rajwada, Chhota Ganpati, Bada Ganpati, Ramchandra Nagar, BSF/Kalani Nagar, and the airport terminal.

This is the only underground package within the 33.53 km Indore Metro Phase 1, connecting with adjacent packages under Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL).
