The 13th UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue, held in London on Thursday (10 April), marked a significant milestone in bilateral relations, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves announcing 400 million euros in fresh trade and investment deals.
In a post on X, the British High Commission in India shared, "The UK and India are growing together. Chancellor @RachelReevesMP and Minister @nsitharaman have announced £400m of trade and investment wins at the 13th UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue in London."
The dialogue aimed at deepening economic cooperation, particularly in areas of financial services, infrastructure, and sustainable growth.
A day earlier, Sitharaman met Lord Mayor of London, Alastair King.
The Lord Mayor reflected on his enduring connection with India and applauded the country’s ambitious development vision.
"Lord Mayor alluded to his deep association with India and shared his appreciation for India’s vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047," the Ministry of Finance posted on X.
In another key meeting, Sitharaman held bilateral talks with the UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds. The discussions revolved around the shared economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
"Both Ministers acknowledged the historical, social, cultural and economic ties between India and UK and exchanged thoughts on the current global and geopolitical situation, Both sides agreed to leverage the existing economic relationship through collaboration and cooperation as a shared priority," read the post from the Ministry of Finance.
They also reviewed progress on the bilateral trade and investment agreements, hoping for a "timely and mutually beneficial outcome" from the ongoing negotiations.
Sitharaman arrived in the UK on 7 April as part of her official visit to the UK and Austria, which concludes on 13 April.
