The Uttarakhand government is considering a proposal to send workers from the state to Israel.

This comes in response to a request from Israel's construction industry to address their worker shortage.

Following the example set by Haryana, which has already started to invite applications for 10,000 construction jobs in Israel with a monthly wage of around Rs 1.34 lakh, the Uttarakhand government is exploring the possibility of sending state's workers to the Middle-Eastern country.

"The department is examining the possibility of sending construction workers from the state to Israel," R Meenakshi Sundaram, secretary of the state labour department, was quoted as saying by Times of India.

"In comparison to other states, the number of construction workers in Uttarakhand is less, as most of them working here are from outside the state," he added.

"However, we are exploring the possibilities for those hailing from our state. If it is feasible, we too will try to send them to Israel as it would offer exposure as well as better remuneration," the official said.

Saurabh Bahuguna, the state minister for skill development, has stated that the labour department is currently investigating the issue.

He also hinted that the department of skill development may soon adopt a similar approach to benefit the workforce of the state.
