As the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in crucial diplomatic discussions with Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, as reported by Indian Express.
This strategic conversation, part of India's diplomatic efforts with key stakeholders in the ongoing war, centered on the challenging situation in the West Asian region.
Prime Minister Modi has been actively involved in diplomatic outreach, having recently spoken with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, UAE’s Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas and others over the past month.
In his call with President Raisi, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern regarding the "terrorist incidents, violence, and loss of civilian lives" in the conflict.
Both leaders stressed the urgency of preventing escalation, ensuring continuous humanitarian aid, and working towards the early restoration of peace and stability.
This comes as Israel has repeatedly alleged that Iran is backing the Palestinian terror outfit Hamas.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces have intensified their operations in Gaza, pushing further into the territory.
They are reportedly nearing the enclave’s main Shifa Hospital, which Israel claims is located above Hamas’s command center.
The Israel Defense Forces' spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, revealed that ground forces are "deepening the pressure on Gaza City," where Hamas’s main stronghold is believed to be.
During overnight airstrikes and operations, several Hamas field commanders were eliminated, significantly impairing Hamas’s ability to launch counterattacks.
