The Andhra Pradesh government has set an ambitious deadline of 15 February to complete the ongoing caste census, urging all ministers and workers to adhere to the outlined plan.

This development comes shortly after a government order emphasising efficient enumeration and data collection.

As reported by NDTV, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) government in the state is leveraging its extensive network to ensure a swift and accurate data collection process.

The government's strategy for achieving this goal includes a door-to-door count conducted by gram ward secretariat staff and enumerators between 19 and 28 January .

Also, In a bid to accommodate those unable to participate in the door-to-door exercise, residents will have the opportunity to register their caste information at village and ward secretariats from 29 January to 2 February 2024.

The final caste census report is slated to be prepared at the gram ward secretariat level by 15 February.

To facilitate this, training for secretariat staff and enumerators will be completed by 11 January, with the mapping of enumerators, staff, and supervisors finalised by 12 January.

The data collection process will delve into socio-economic, educational, and employment aspects, providing a more comprehensive picture of the state's demographic landscape.

In November 2021, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved the comprehensive caste-based census, urging the BJP-led union government to conduct it alongside the 2021 Census. However, it did not materialise at that time.

The 'success' of this initiative could potentially set a precedent for other states grappling with similar demands for caste census data.
