Bengaluru Cafe Blast Case: NIA Identifies Suspects, Linked To Shivamogga ISIS Module
The Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru was subject to an IED attack on Friday (1 March).
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reportedly stated that the Shivamogga ISIS Module is suspected to be responsible for the explosion at Rameshwaram Cafe.
Ten people were injured in the low intensity blast at the popular cafe in Bengaluru on 1 March.
The explosion was carried out by triggering an IED bomb using a timer.
A cap left behind by the bomber at the restaurant led NIA investigators to Chennai.
Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Mateen Taha, both associated with the Shivamogga ISIS module, bought the cap from a mall in Chennai, according to the anti-terror probe agency.
CCTV footage from the mall captured the duo, and it is suspected that they they spent some time in Chennai during January and February.
NIA officials also plan to compare the DNA found on the cap with that of Shazib’s family members, CNN-News18 reported.
The officials are probing the detained suspects from the Shivamogga case to ascertain if they have information about another ISIS module or the suspect captured on CCTV in Bengaluru.
While Karnataka police and the NIA arrested 10 people in connection with the blast, the suspected handlers remain at large.
The Shivamogga ISIS module had attempted a terror attack in Mangaluru in 2022.
The module was exposed after a pressure cooker filled with explosives detonated in an autorickshaw in November 2022.
