Bhajan Lal Sharma was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan at a grand event in Jaipur in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Tuesday, Bhajan Lal Sharma, who is a first-time MLA from Sanganer, was named as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan after BJP legislature party meet.

Divya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa took the oath of office as the two Deputy Chief Ministers of the state.

Apart from PM Modi, the inauguration ceremony saw the attendance of the BJP's leading figures including Home Minister Amit Shah, and party president J P Nadda.

Maintaining its pattern of unexpected selections for Chief Ministers, the BJP announced the name of Bhajan Lal Sharma, a first-time MLA, for the top post in Rajasthan. Sharma, who has a Master's degree in Political Science, is also a businessman.

Although this is his first victory in an Assembly election, he is not new to politics, having been involved in political affairs for 34 years.

He previously held various roles within the ABVP, the student wing of the RSS, before transitioning to the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth branch of the BJP, where he served in several positions.

Originally from Nadbai in the Bharatpur district, he is recognised for his rise from humble beginnings.

He ascended to the position of sarpanch at just 27 years old, eventually earning the roles of party state vice-president and state general secretary. Within the party, he is regarded as a committed party worker.

In the assembly elections held on 25 November, the BJP emerged victorious with 115 seats, outpacing the Congress which secured 69 seats. The election took place for 199 out of the 200 assembly seats in the state.
