In a recent development, the US Supreme Court delivered a significant victory to former president Donald Trump on Monday (4 March), ruling that he can remain on the Republican primary ballot in Colorado.

This decision overturns the state's attempt to disqualify him based on the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, which prohibits individuals involved in an insurrection from holding public office.

Trump, accused of inciting the violent Capitol attack on 6 January 2021, celebrated the ruling on his Truth Social platform, hailing it as a "BIG WIN FOR AMERICA!!!".

“It was a very important decision, very well-crafted. And I think it will go a long way toward bringing our country together," he said later in remarks at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

“For the reasons given, responsibility for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates rests with Congress and not the States," the unsigned Supreme Court opinion read.

"The judgment of the Colorado Supreme Court therefore cannot stand. All nine members of the Court agree with that result," it said further.

The former president is poised to potentially face Democrat Joe Biden again in the November election.

The Supreme Court's verdict not only affects Colorado but also halts similar efforts in states like Illinois and Maine to bar Trump from the ballot under the 14th Amendment.

The ruling comes on the eve of Super Tuesday (5 March), a critical day for presidential primaries and caucuses across most states.

Besides his electoral battles, the former President is also entangled in two other criminal cases — one in federal court in Washington, DC, and another in a state court in Georgia.
