The early trends from Madhya Pradesh will give the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a lot to be happy about. While the trends, as of 9:41 AM, are giving the BJP a clear edge, the major shift appears to be happening in the Nimar region.

In 2018, the BJP lost Rajpur, Kasarwad, and Khargone in the Nimar region, and as per the early trends, they are leading in all these seats. The story is similar for the Nepanagar and Bhikangaon seats, where the BJP is leading now. Further, Alirajpur, Thandala, and Petlawad are also going for the BJP.

Malwa and Nimar, together, make up 66 seats of the 230 in the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly. In Malwa, Congress is losing Alote as well. Rau, Depalpur, and Sanwer are also going to the BJP.

In September, pollsters were giving 44 of the 66 seats in this region to the Congress, thus making them prime favourites to win the election. However, the trends have reversed since then, and the BJP could exceed its final tally by more than half.
