CISF Roped In To Provide Anti-Terrorist, Anti-Sabotage Cover For Maharishi Valmiki International Airport In Ayodhya

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been sanctioned to deploy more than 150 personnel for the security cover of the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham, just days before the much-anticipated consecration ceremony of the Ram temple on 22 January.
The airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2023, will now fall under the purview of the specialised Aviation Security Group of the central force.
The CISF contingent, led by a deputy commandant-rank officer, will play a crucial role in ensuring anti-terrorist and anti-sabotage measures at the airport.
As reported by The New Indian Express, the tasks include passenger frisking, baggage checks, and securing the facility's perimeter.
This move comes after a thorough review by central security and intelligence agencies, acknowledging the importance of professional security for the airport.
The decision also aligns with the significant threat perception to the facility, which is expected to serve as a key air gateway for pilgrims and visitors.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has highlighted plans for the gradual expansion of the airport's capacity in phases.
The initial phase will cover 65,000 square feet, with the capability to handle two to three flights per hour.
The ongoing work includes the construction of a 2,200-metre runway, allowing the landing of Boeing 737 and Airbus 319/320 aircraft.
Further approvals for the second phase, featuring an extended runway of up to 3,700 metre, are in progress.
This expansion aims to accommodate international flights, including Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 aircraft, reaffirming the strategic importance of the Ayodhya airport.
As the Ayodhya airport gains prominence, these security enhancements are poised to contribute significantly to the overall success of the aviation facility.
