PM Narendra Modi in Uttarakhand's Rudrapur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (2 April) hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks that the "country will be on fire" if Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"Congress and INDI Alliance have shown their intentions. The Congress royal family's shehzada declared that if the nation chooses BJP for the third time, there will be fire," PM Modi said in Uttarakhand's Rudrapur.

He added, "Those who ruled the country for 60 years, are talking about setting the country on fire, just because they were out of power for 10 years. Do you accept this? Will you let them set the country on fire?"

Modi asserted that this is not a language of democratic discourse and urged the public to throw them out of the stadium. He claimed that Emergency-minded Congress no longer trusts democracy.

The PM alleged that the Congress is inciting people against public mandate and wants to drag the country into instability and anarchy. He cited DK Suresh's statement of dividing India into North and South.

Modi said that instead of punishing such a leader, the Congress bestowed him with a Lok Sabha ticket. DK Suresh is the brother of Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and is fielded from Bangalore Rural.

The PM accused Congress of insulting Bipin Rawat because they were unable to accept his patriotism. He alleged that the Congress is so much immersed in appeasement that it can't think of the nation's interests.
