Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (7 July) launched a scathing attack on Congress and said that the party considers Chhattisgarh as an ATM.

PM Modi accused Congress of involvement in corruption in the multi-crore liquor scam that is being investigated by central agencies.

Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for projects worth around Rs 7,500 crore in Chhattisgarh, following which he addressed a BJP rally in Raipur.

During his address, he highlighted the Congress party's broken promise to ban liquor in the state. Instead, he claimed that they engaged in corrupt practices related to the sale of liquor and used the money gained from the scam for running the party.

He also took a dig at the power struggle between Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy CM T S Singhdeo, based on the failure to implement the 2.5 years CM seat sharing formula after the Congress won 2018 polls.

“Due to the fight over liquor scam money, the 2.5 years CM seat formula could not be implemented. Congress sees Chhattisgarh as an ATM. Now you can understand, in the past three or four years, during elections why Congress has been giving responsibilities to its leaders from Chhattisgarh. The last four years show Congress cannot breathe without corruption and it is their ideology,” PM Modi said, reports Indian Express.

Prime Minister Modi also criticised the Congress party for their handling of paddy procurement, claiming that they are playing games with it.

He emphasised that the central government has been actively supporting paddy farmers, providing over Rs 1 lakh crore in the last nine years, including Rs 22,000 crore this year.

"The Congress is betraying and lying to paddy farmers,” he said. Dismissing PM Modi's claims, Baghel took to Twitter to express his disagreement.

He accused the state BJP leaders of misleading farmers by claiming that paddy is procured with the Centre's money.

"You are the PM, you know the truth, but you also lied," he said.
