Continuing its strikes against Iran-backed Houthi militants, US Central Command Forces destroyed their UAV ground control station and 10 one-way attack UAVs in "self-defence" on Thursday (1 February) at 1:30 am (Sanaa time).

The US claimed that these assets based in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen "presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and the US Navy ships in the region" and that the US action would "protect freedom of navigation."

Prior to this, the US said that on 31 January at 8:30 pm (Sanaa time), Houthis fired one anti-ship ballistic missile towards the Gulf of Aden. The missile, along with three Iranian UAVs, was shot down by USS Carney.

Another incident took place, on the same day at 3:30 pm (Sanaa time), when the US forces struck and destroyed a Houthi surface-to-air missile prepared to launch after determining that it presented an imminent threat to US aircraft.

Similarly, the USS Gravely shot down an anti-ship cruise missile fired by the Houthi militants towards the Red Sea on 30 January at 11:30 pm (Sanaa time). This takes the total count of US shot-down missiles to three in three days.
