Water gun supply chain from China disrupted by Coronavirus

The spread of Coronavirus in China has impacted the toys, water gun and colour market centred on Holi, the festival of colours celebrated in India.

The spread of Coronavirus has disrupted the supply chain, making the prices of water guns, toys and other such items shoot up by at least 30 per cent in the Indian market, as per a report in the Patrika.

According to this report, the Coronavirus in China has impacted trade worth Rs. 11,000 crores in India. The report mentions that 85 per cent toys in the Indian market come from China. On festivals such as Holi, Indians prefer to buy low-cost toys and water guns. China-made toys have an advantage here.

As the supply chain remains disrupted by the epidemic in China, traders who had placed orders in China, have not received the stocks, and are now relying on online orders.

Online trading is set to benefit from the situation, where enquiries from ‘small traders’ have spiralled by 127 per cent as per the report. These traders are interested in buying stocks from online trading platforms.

Another aspect arising from the current scenario according to the expert is that the consumer is exercising caution in spending owing to the economic slowdown.

A market expert, Vijay Sardana, has told the Patrika in the same report that campaigns against Chinese products on social media, too, have resulted in lack of enthusiasm among consumers.
