Covid-19 Battle: Uttarakhand Woman Donates Rs 10 Lakh From Life Savings To PM Cares Fund, Bank Employees Salute Her, CM Rawat Praises ‘Selfless Sacrifice’

A resident of Gauchar in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, has donated her life’s savings to India's fight against Covid-19. Devaki Bhandari, 60, a social worker and widow, donated Rs 10 lakh to the PM Cares Fund.
Bhandari has said that she had saved up the amount as fixed deposits and pension, and now wants to strengthen India's efforts to curb the spread of the virus. She has said that she leads a simple life, and has no children, lives in a rented accommodation and doesn't have many expenses, so the amount would be put to better use in the fund.
Her efforts towards contributing to the fund have been praised by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat as “selfless sacrifice”. Rawat added that her gesture shows that she considers India her family, and that she is a huge inspiration to the country.
According to this report, she has been working towards the education of many underprivileged children. She originally belongs to Rudraprayag.
Her late husband Hukum Singh Bhandari was employed in the sericulture department. He passed away 12 years ago.
After his death, she dedicated her time to social work and she is fondly called "Devaki didi" by people. She got to know about coronavirus from a relative who lives in Delhi. She decided to contribute to the fight against the disease.
The report mentions that as soon as employees at the Central Bank of India branch, where she holds an account, got to know about her decision, they stood up to salute her for her generosity.
Uttarakhand has reported 35 cases of Covid 19 so far. A locality in Haldwani district has emerged as a hotspot. The number of positive cases saw an increase in the state after several people of the Tablighi Jamaat were found positive.
