Covid Rush: Indian Railways Running More Than 1,500 Special Trains To Meet Demand

  • Indian Railways is running 1,512 special train services on an average in a day.
  • About 5,387 suburban trains and 981 passenger train services are also operational in the country.

In the last 10 days, Indian Railways has operated a total 432 special train services from Maharashtra and 1,166 special train services from the national capital for various destinations to carry passengers including migrants across the country.

Currently, the public transporter is running 1,512 special train services on an average in a day. There are 5,387 suburban trains and 981 passenger train services also operational in the country.

"We are running special train services across the country for the convenience of passengers. These services include mail/express trains, passenger trains and suburban trains," said a senior Railway Ministry official.

Apart from regular train services, additional trains are being run during April-May 2021 as summer special trains.

As on 21 April, the railways is operating 53 special train services from Northern Railway, 41 special train services form Central Railway and five special train services from Western Railway daily to the various destinations across the country.

In the period from 12 April to 21 April, the railways has operated a total 432 special train services from Central and Western Railway and 1,166 special train services from Northern Railway.

According to the railways, special train services would continue to run as per the demand on routes and it is fully prepared to operate trains at short notice on any particular route.

The national transporter shall make all efforts to ensure that passengers may travel comfortably without any inconvenience.

In view of the Covid, the railways is making all efforts to raise awareness of railway passengers and the general public with regard to Covid guidelines and protocols.
