In the aftermath of the Indian Supreme Court's unanimous decision affirming the government's move to abrogate provisions of Article 370, China's Foreign Ministry has issued a response, asserting Beijing's "consistent and clear" position on the Kashmir issue, as reported by Hindustan Times.

According to spokesperson Mao Ning, China advocates for dialogue and consultations between India and Pakistan concerning the region of Jammu and Kashmir citing UN Charter and Security Council resolutions.

The Indian Supreme Court delivered its verdict on Monday (11 December), upholding the government's decision to revoke the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.

"We hold that Article 370 is a temporary provision. It was introduced to serve transitional purpose to serve an interim process. It was for a temporary purpose because of war conditions in the state. Textual reading also shows it is a temporary provision and thus it was placed in part 21 of the constitution," the CJI said during the verdict.

As geopolitical dynamics in South Asia undergo significant shifts, China's response adds another layer to the international discourse surrounding the Article 370 decision.
