Former PM HD Deve Gowda

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (S) chief HD Deve Gowda has leveled sharp criticism at the Congress party's manifesto, targeting its pledge for "wealth redistribution" in India.

Deve Gowda expressed dismay at what he deemed an "insult" to two former Congress Prime Ministers, Manmohan Singh and Narsimha Rao, who implemented market reforms in the country.

"He is indirectly trying to say that all that the two Congress prime ministers did was wrong. He has torn up their economic reforms like he had torn up an ordinance issued by the Manmohan Singh government," Gowda added.

He suggested that the plethora of promises made by Congress in their manifesto seemed unrealistic, indicating that only a party with no expectation of coming to power could make such pledges.

The veteran politician went on to accuse Congress of seeking power at any cost, stating that their agenda seemed to aim at turning the country "upside down."

He further questioned the feasibility of Congress's proposal to conduct a wealth survey and redistribute wealth, likening it to the tactics of a "Maoist leader" and implying a revolutionary agenda.

"Rahul Gandhi wants to do a wealth survey and redistribute wealth. Does he think he is a Maoist leader? Is he dreaming of a revolution?" Gowda said.

Deve Gowda also raised doubts about Congress's commitment to providing 30 lakh jobs, challenging the party to clarify how these jobs would be generated and sustained financially.

Recently, the Congress had distanced itself from Pitroda's remarks, with Jairam Ramesh stating on social media that sensationalizing the comments aimed to divert attention from Modi's campaign.
