News Brief
Assam Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Election Commission (EC) has reduced the campaign ban it had imposed Friday (2 April) on BJP's Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The EC had imposed a 48-hour bar on campaigning on Sarma. With campaigning slated to end on Sunday (4 April) for the final phase of polling on 6 April, the ban meant Sarma could not have campaigned any more for the last round of polls.
But the EC reduced the 48-hour ban by 24 hours. This means that Sarma can resume campaigning from Saturday (3 April) evening and continue till the end of the campaigning on Sunday (4 April) evening.
Himanta Biswa Sarma took to twitter a short while ago to announce that he would participate in a roadshow in West Guwahati constituency on Saturday evening.
Sarma will end his campaigning with a grand finale--a roadshow--in his own constituency of Jalukbari on Sunday evening. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari are scheduled to participate in the roadshow.
