Elon Musk's X Launches Crowd-Sourced Fact-Checking Feature 'Community Notes' In India: Here's All About It

Elon Musk's micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter) has launched its "Community Notes" programme in India.
The platform said that this programme will allow users to participate in fact-checking tweets shared on the platform, creating a more informed digital environment.
X's Community Notes handle posted on Thursday (4 April), "Welcome new contributors in India. Our first contributors are joining today, and we'll be expanding over time. As always, we'll monitor quality to ensure that notes are found helpful by people from different points of view. Community Notes now has contributors in 69 countries around the world, and we're adding more regularly".
Reposting the post, X owner, Elon Musk, said, “Community Notes now active on India!”.
What is Community Notes?
According to X, Community Notes (previously known as Birdwatch) is designed to combat misinformation by inviting users from diverse backgrounds to contribute as note authors.
The platform says that it does not endorse any specific viewpoint, relying instead on the collective input of contributors to determine the credibility of content.
The Community Notes feature allows users to add context to tweets they believe are misleading or need additional information.
This programme is designed to empower the Twitter community to collaboratively address misinformation and provide more context to tweets.

Writing Notes: Users can write notes to provide context, additional information, or fact-checking for tweets they believe are misleading or require more explanation.
Rating Notes: Other users with different points of view can rate these notes based on their helpfulness and accuracy. This rating system helps ensure that only the most informative and accurate notes are visible to the public.
Visibility: If a note receives enough positive ratings, it may be shown directly beneath the tweet to all users, providing a broader audience with additional context or corrections.
Community-driven: The system relies heavily on community engagement, where users participate in both writing and rating notes, fostering a community-based approach to information verification.
