The Chief Justice of India (CJI) pledged to examine the listing aspect of a plea by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra, which challenges her expulsion from the Lok Sabha. Moitra's plea for an urgent listing was presented to the Supreme Court on Wednesday (13 December), The Hindu reported.

The TMC leader contested her expulsion from the Lok Sabha in the Supreme Court on Monday. This move came in response to the Lok Sabha's acceptance of an ethics committee report, which found her guilty of receiving gifts and unlawful benefits from a businessman to promote his interests.

Following a contentious discussion in the Lok Sabha concerning the panel report on 8 December, where. Moitra was denied the opportunity to express her views, Pralhad Joshi, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, proposed a resolution to dismiss the TMC MP from the House due to "unethical conduct". This motion was subsequently approved by a voice vote.

In response to her dismissal, Moitra vehemently compared the move to a "kangaroo court" execution. She claimed that the government was misusing a Parliamentary committee to coerce the Opposition into capitulation.
