Ministry of Defence (MoD) gave its nod to a unique interactive virtual museum of the country's Gallantry award winners. Said to be the first-of-its-kind, the virtual museum will be hosted by the Gallantry awards portal.

The project, expected to be completed soon, will be implemented by the MoD in partnership with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). Aimed at providing the nation a virtual platform to pay homage to the country's brave men, the museum also will serve as a platform for people to express gratitude to the families of armed forces personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar said that the initiative will contribute in bringing to life the heroic deeds of the winners of the Gallantry awards and acknowledge their immense contribution & indomitable spirit in securing the nation from internal and external threats.

He said that it would enable a grateful nation to pay homage to the country's bravehearts, adding that it would be a befitting tribute to their acts of valour in the service of the nation.

The museum will host a 3D walk-through experience through a gallery building, wall of fame, an awardee gallery with photos and profiles of the war heroes and an auditorium 'The War Room' hosting the tales of bravery.

It will also take visitors on a virtual tour of War Memorials across the nation as well as attempt to bring the stories of war heroes to life with animation videos. This unique e-museum will also provide a 'vistor's book' kind of forum for visitors to pen tributes and thoughts about the gallantry award winners.

"It is coinciding with the seventy-fifth anniversary of India's Independence and fiftieth anniversary of the 1971 war and is the best way to honour the Armed Forces", said Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) 's Jayant D Patil, adding that SIDM would work towards speedy implementation of the project.
