External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has indirectly criticised China's trade practices without explicitly naming the country.

In a recent interview with Malayalam news channel Asianet, Jaishankar emphasised the significant influx of goods into Asian and African markets and pointed out the need to address this issue while refraining from singling out any specific nation.

"It is not the West which is flooding Asia and Africa with goods on a massive scale. I think we need to get over the syndrome of the past that the West is the bad guy and on the other side are the developing countries. The world is more complicated, the problems are much more complicated than that," the minister was quoted by NDTV as saying.

He underscored that the West should not be perceived as the primary source of this phenomenon and urged for a more nuanced understanding of global trade dynamics.

Jaishankar also clarified that his remarks did not amount to endorsing the West and highlighted the complex challenges posed by globalisation, particularly in the context of the last 15 to 20 years, where countries have grappled with the consequences of their markets being flooded by low-cost goods.
