A wave of security alerts swept across France on Wednesday (18 October), compelling authorities to evacuate six airports, including Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Nice, Toulouse, and Beauvais near Paris, as reported by NDTV.
The evacuations were initiated in response to emailed threats of potential attacks, marking the latest in a series of similar incidents that have occurred in recent days.
French authorities swiftly responded to the threats, opting to evacuate the airports to thoroughly investigate the credibility of the warnings.
The objective, as stated by a police source, was to "clear up any doubts" regarding the authenticity of the threats.
The heightened security measures followed a string of bomb threats in France, coinciding with the escalating tensions in the Middle East since Hamas's attack on Israel on 7 October.
Additionally, the recent tragic stabbing incident of a teacher in the northern city of Arras by an individual claiming allegiance to the Islamic State group has further amplified concerns about security.
The French aviation authority DGAC, confirmed the evacuations due to bomb warnings at Lille, Lyon, Toulouse, and Beauvais airports. Passengers faced significant delays, especially at Lille, Lyon, and Toulouse, as authorities worked diligently to ensure safety protocols were followed.
Amidst these tense situations, airports like Nice and Lyon's Bron returned to normalcy after security checks and vigilance efforts were conducted.
However, passengers experienced confusion, with some unaware of the reasons behind the evacuations and heightened security measures.
