In a remarkable feat, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted and detained 744 individuals attempting to illegally enter India from Bangladesh through Tripura.
As per reports by The Hindu, this accomplishment represents the highest number of infiltrators apprehended in the last three years, underscoring the BSF's enhanced vigilance and operational efficiency.
Among those arrested, 112 were identified as Rohingyas, 337 as Bangladeshis, and 295 as Indians.
The BSF Tripura Frontier, which detained 369 infiltrators in 2022 and 208 in 2021, has demonstrated a substantial escalation in its operational effectiveness in 2023.
In addition to preventing illegal border crossings, the security personnel seized contraband items, including banned cough syrup, cannabis, Yaba tablets, and brown sugar, with an estimated total value of Rs 41.82 crore.
Notably, 4 kg of gold was also confiscated during these operations.
“Over the years, the BSF Tripura Frontier has performed multifarious responsibilities in fighting insurgency, maintaining the border’s sanctity, and preventing all kinds of trans-border crimes while working under adverse climatic conditions in remote and inhospitable terrain,” said an officer concerned with the matter.
It's important to note that Tripura shares 856 km of the International Border with Bangladesh.
