In Another Step Towards Self-Reliance In Defence, 16-Ton Infantry Fighting Vehicle Airdropped Using Indigenous Platform

The Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF) has through joint endeavours successfully conducted a validation of the Airdrop of a Mechanised Platform (BMP) from a C-17 aircraft at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges (MFFR).
This complex airborne exercise required detailed planning and collaborative efforts from the Indian Army and IAF.
The Indian Army in a post on social media stated, "A successful validation of the Airdrop of Mechanised Platform (BMP) from C-17 aircraft of @IAF_MCC was conducted at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges #MFFR. The intricate airborne exercise involved meticulous planning and joint efforts of @adgpi & @IAF_MCC."
The Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty (BMP) infantry fighting vehicle weighs around 16T (tonnes).
The utilisation of a 32 ft Type V Platform for the airdrop, showcases India's progress towards self-reliance in defence.
It further added, "The airdrop was carried out from an indigenously developed 32 ft Type V Platform, which also highlights the strides made towards #Aatmanirbharta in Defence."
The Type V Heavy Drop System is known to be compatible with C-17, C-130, and other C-series aircraft.
It includes a platform and a specialised multistage parachute system, featuring eight main canopies: three extractor parachutes, one drogue parachute, and various electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems, as well as latching accessories.
