As reported by Economic Times, the revival of this confrontational style signifies a return to a more aggressive foreign policy stance, with Xi stressing the importance of defending national interests and sovereignty.
During the gathering in Beijing, Xi stressed the importance of "safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development," echoing the bold tone adopted by Chinese diplomats in recent years.
This comes after a brief softening of rhetoric in 2021 during efforts to attract foreign investment.
Xi emphasised discipline and loyalty within the diplomatic corps, especially following the removal of Foreign Minister Qin Gang in July.

The address also underscored China's commitment to enhancing international influence amid perceived Western attempts to restrain the nation.
Lastly, Xi urged diplomats to strengthen global friendships and effectively communicate the "China story" using foreign languages and methods.
