Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on Wednesday (20 March) while both countries have been engaged in a war for over two years.

Modi discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict with both of them and reiterated India’s consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy and a people-centric approach as the way forward.

The PM congratulated Putin on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation and conveyed his best wishes for peace, progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Russia.

Modi and Putin agreed to make concerted efforts towards further strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between the India-Russia and reviewed progress in various issues of bilateral cooperation.

Modi discussed ways to further strengthen India-Ukraine partnership in various spheres with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy appreciated India’s continued humanitarian assistance for the people of Ukraine.

Modi highlighted that India supports all efforts for an early and peaceful resolution of all issues between the Parties. He added that India would continue to do everything within its means to support a peaceful solution.
