India To Manufacture 1,000 New-Generation Amrit Bharat Trains, Speed To Be Increased To 250 Kmph: Railway Minister Vaishnaw

In a recent interview with PTI-Videos, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has revealed ambitious plans for the future of India's railway network.
Vaishnaw said that India is set to manufacture at least 1,000 new-generation Amrit Bharat trains in the coming years, while also working on trains capable of running at speeds of 250 kmph.
Highlighting the transformative initiatives undertaken by the railways during the Narendra Modi government's tenure, Vaishnaw pointed out significant technological advancements, including the construction of the world's highest railway bridge and India's first under-river water tunnel for the Kolkata metro.
The minister shed light on the commencement of construction for India's first under-sea tunnel between Mumbai and Thane as part of the ongoing bullet train project.
Vaishnaw also emphasised that only a handful of countries globally possess such advanced technologies.
Vaishnaw further provided insights into the railways' annual expenditures, including allocations for pensions, salaries, energy bills, and maintenance, totaling approximately Rs 2.40 lakh crore.
The Railway Minister also highlighted key safety initiatives, with over Rs 1.27 lakh crore invested in passengers' safety over the last decade.
He discussed the implementation of the automatic train protection system Kavach to enhance passenger safety across the rail network.
Addressing concerns about the bullet train project's progress, Vaishnaw attributed delays in Maharashtra to the previous government's policies.
