In a significant development on Monday (23 October), the Israeli military announced that it executed limited ground raids in Gaza and carried out airstrikes targeting Hamas terrorists, according to Reuters.

This action comes as both sides prepare for the next phase of an escalating conflict.

Over the weekend, Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist organisation, reported that its fighters confronted an Israeli armoured force that had infiltrated southern Gaza.

This engagement reportedly resulted in the destruction of Israeli military equipment. However, Israel has not yet confirmed these reported losses.

The timing of a potential full-scale attack remains uncertain, with both parties uncertain about what lies ahead.

In a televised briefing, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israel's chief military spokesperson, disclosed that 222 individuals were confirmed as hostages following an attack by Hamas on 7 October.

Israeli tank and infantry forces conducted night-time raids deep into Gaza, aiming to eliminate threats and gather vital intelligence.

These operations are focused on locating missing individuals and hostages while reducing terrorist threats.

Meanwhile, Hamas's armed wing reported that its forces engaged with an Israeli group near Khan Younis in southern Gaza, destroying Israeli equipment.

In response to cross-border attacks by Hamas on Israeli communities on 7 October, Israel had deployed tanks and troops near the Gaza border in preparation for a planned ground invasion.
