ISRO Chairman Calls For More IIT Students To Join India's Space Programme

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman S Somanath has urged students to take an active role in India's space programmes and consider joining ISRO.
He was addressing the stuents at the annual science and technology festival, Techfest, held by the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay.
“I will be happy to see more IITians joining the space programme and participating in building the nation’s space projects,” said Somanath, as per the reports.
During his speech, he discussed ISRO's future projects, including the human space flight program Gaganyaan, missions to send humans to the moon, and the creation of a moon-based economy, all of which ISRO aims to execute by 2047.
He also mentioned the launch of the ‘Bharat Antriksh Station’ (Indian Space Station) by 2035, with the initial phase set for 2028.
In his speech to the students, the ISRO chairman highlighted that ISRO is looking to explore potential research collaborations with different institutions across India, notably in fields like material science and robotics.
He particularly urged IIT Bombay to lend their robotics expertise for in-orbit services.
Following his address, he responded to questions from students, specifically addressing the issue of many students choosing high-paying jobs abroad.
According to reports, he mentioned an instance when his team went to an IIT to recruit engineers, but upon displaying the salary structure in the presentation, 60 per cent of the candidates walked out.
He urged the students to contemplate employment with the Indian Space Research Organisation, highlighting the significance of participating in the nation's space initiatives.
