The Karnataka Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the commencement of construction work on phase 3 of the Namma Metro railway network in Bengaluru.
The decision aims to address the city's notorious traffic congestion and infrastructure challenges by expanding its mass transit system.
As reported by Hindustan Times, phase 3 of the project will span the entire length of the Outer Ring Road (ORR), covering a distance of 44.65 kilometers.
Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda revealed that the first metro rail line under this phase will stretch from Hebbal to JP Nagar, spanning approximately 32.15 km.
The second line will traverse areas like Gorguntepalya, Magadi Road, Mysuru Road, and eventually reach JP Nagar.
Additionally, phase 3 will include the route from Hosahalli to Magadi Road, extending further to Kadabagere, covering about 12.5 km.
The Centre has also given a thumbs up for the expansion of the line and a feasibility test has also been conducted.
The estimated cost for Phase 3 stands at Rs 15,611 crore, with a completion deadline set for 2028.
The state government will bear the majority of the project cost, with a contribution of 13 to 15 per cent expected from the Centre.
