Convergence Energy Services (CESL) has unveiled a major initiative aimed at accelerating electric vehicle (EV) adoption throughout India.
Through a rate contract facilitating the procurement of electric cars on a five-year lease, CESL intends to implement the 'EV as a Service' model nationwide.
Under this framework, CESL plans to roll out 1,000 e-cars in the initial phase, offering comprehensive fleet management services including repair and maintenance, vehicle insurance, roadside assistance, and optional driver provision.
Since 2018, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) and CESL have collectively deployed around 2,000 e-cars on a lease basis across various departments under central and state governments and CPSUs.
This project seeks to bolster India's journey towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 by fostering market acceptance of electric vehicles in the leasing and rental sector.
Vishal Kapoor, Managing Director and CEO of CESL, highlighted, "EV-as-a-Service has followed a unique procurement model that enables CESL to deploy e-cars of any make/model available in India, which are eligible as per Make in India guidelines."
"Furthermore, CESL is committed to ensuring compliance with all statutory rules to avoid violations in vehicle lease/rental," he emphasized.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
