News Brief
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
The special court in Bengaluru has directed the city police to launch a probe against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and Congress State IT cell head B R Naidu.
This directive comes following allegations that they used a morphed image of a protest by BJP leaders.
The BJP leaders had participated in a demonstration against the recent arrest of Srikanth Pujari, a Kar Sevak involved in the 1992 Babri mosque demolition agitation.
During the demonstration, BJP leaders held placards with the message "I'm also a Kar Sevak, arrest me too."
However, it is alleged that the Congress IT Cell morphed the writing on the placards to make it appear like a confessional statement of scams and other irregularities.
This altered image was then shared on social media, including from the social media handle of Shivakumar, who is also the Karnataka Congress chief.
The complaint was lodged by Yogendra Hodaghatta, the BJP Legal Cell state convener, stating that the post used a false document to stir up enmity between communities.
As a result, the court directed the station house officer of the High Grounds police station to book a case under Section 156(3) of the CrPC, news agency PTI reported.
The court asked the police to submit a report on the investigation in the case by 30 March.
