Maharashtra Police Files FIR Against Param Bir Singh Under Slew Of Sections Including SC-ST Atrocity Act

Maharashtra Police has filed an FIR against Former Mumbai Commissioner Param Bir Singh after a cop levelled allegations of corruption against him.
The FIR has been registered in Vidharbha's Akola against Singh, DCP Parag Manere and 31 other policemen.
The City Kotwali police in Akola have applied a total of 27 sections against the accused persons.
The various sections under which the FIR has been registered against the police personnel include criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities Act), 1989.
The FIR was filed on the complaint lodged by inspector Bhimrao Ghadge.
In his complaint addressed to the Maharashtra government and the DGP, Ghadge had made a series of allegations related to corruption against Singh and other officers, in the period when the former was posted with the Thane police, reports Indian Express.
After the Indquiry, the Anti Corruption Bureau was asked to investigate the allegations by the DGP.
Ghadge had alleged that during his tenure, several officers in Thane Police Commissionerate under Singh had indulged in various acts of corruption.
He also claimed that Singh had asked him to not charge-sheet certain individuals against whom FIRs had been registered.
A zero FIR (mode of lodging FIR in any police station irrespective of the offence committed in that area or any other area) was filed by the Akola police at the Kotwali police station and it has been transferred to the Thane city police, reports Times Of India.
According to the reports , Ghadge, who is now posted in Akola police control room, further alleged that upon refusing to follow Singh's instruction, five FIRs were filed against him and he was suspended.
The development comes as the ex-Mumbai commissioner has filed a fresh plea in the Bombay high court, complaining about efforts to thwart the CBI probe into allegations of corruption against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh and also challenging the decision of the state government to entrust enquiries against him to director-general of police Sanjay Pandey.
