Major Landslide Triggered By Heavy Rainfall Washes Away Part Of National Highway Near China Border In Arunachal Pradesh
A major portion of National Highway 313 was washed away by a landslide.
A major portion of National Highway 313, a vital link connecting Arunachal Pradesh's Dibang Valley, was washed away by a landslide on Wednesday (24 April), disrupting traffic on this crucial route for at least three days.
Images of the affected stretch of the highway between Anini in Dibang Valley district and Roing in Lower Dibang Valley show a significant section completely destroyed, leaving a large gap in the road.
According to a report from Hindustan Times, the landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall in the area over the past few days.
On Wednesday night, the Deputy Commissioner of Dibang Valley district issued a warning advising people to avoid using the road until it is repaired and the rainfall subsides. The restoration work is expected to take at least three days.
During this period, connectivity in this region — situated in the northeasternmost corner of Arunachal Pradesh and bordering China to the north — is expected to be severely affected.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed concern over the inconvenience caused to commuters due to the extensive damage to the highway between Hunli and Anini. He has instructed authorities to restore connectivity as soon as possible, noting that this road links Dibang Valley with the rest of the country.
