A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) jawan was killed and another injured in a blast triggered by Maoists in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday (13 December).
The incident took place near the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine, within the jurisdiction of the Chhote Dongar police station, at around 11 am, Indian Express reported.
The security personnel were conducting an area domination operation at the time, according to a senior police officer cited by the news agency PTI.
He stated that the Naxalites triggered an IED explosion and started shooting at the patrol team, which resulted in an encounter between the two sides.
Constable Kamlesh Sahu, belonging to the CAF’s 9th battalion, was killed in the incident, while another constable, Vinay Kumar Sahu, sustained minor injuries, he added.
The deceased jawan hailed from the Janjgir-Champa district of the state.
The wounded jawan has been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Currently, a joint team of the Indo Tibetan Border Police and District Reserve Guard is conducting a search operation in the area.
Earlier in the year, an improvised explosive device blast, carried out by Maoists in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, resulted in the death of ten security personnel and a driver.
