Hafiz Saeed In Pakistan Government's Custody, Serving 78-Year Prison Term After Conviction In Terror Financing Case: UN

In a significant revelation, the United Nations (UN) has confirmed that Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and leader of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, is currently in the custody of the Pakistani government.
According to the UN Security Council's Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee, Saeed has been serving a 78-year imprisonment sentence since 12 February 2020, following convictions in seven terror financing cases.
As reported by Moneycontrol, the amended entry on the UN website provides details of Saeed's address, listed as House No. 116E, Mohalla Johar, Lahore, Pakistan, as of May 2008.
The report also includes updates on other key figures.
Hafiz Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, a founding member of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and deputy to Saeed, has been confirmed deceased.
Additionally, the UN noted the demise of Maulana Fazlullah, commander of Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan, confirmed deceased on 13 June 2018.
The current leader of Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan is identified as Pakistani national Noor Wali Mehsud, with an address listed in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, as of 26 November 2022.
The UN report also brings attention to the defunct status of the Al Rashid Trust, previously associated with Jaish-i-Mohammed and linked to financing Al-Qaida and the Taliban.
