Modi Government Approves 110 Import Applications For Laptops, Computers Following Restrictions

The Narendra Modi government has approved approximately 110 out of 111 requests for importing laptops, computers, and other IT hardware products.
Notable companies, including Dell International Services India, Apple India, HP India Sales, Lenovo (India), ASUS India, IBM India, Samsung India Electronics, Xiaomi Technology India, Cisco Commerce India, Siemens, and Bosch, have received these approvals.
A total of 111 applications have been submitted for authorisation to import IT products, as reported by The Economic Times.
Last month, the government introduced changes to import restrictions on laptops and computers, allowing importers to bring IT hardware from overseas with a simple 'authorization' process by detailing quantity and value.
This new 'import management system' is designed to monitor the flow of laptops, tablets, and computers into the country without disrupting market supply or creating a complex licensing system.
As per an government official, "Approximately 110 import authorizations have been issued to date, with all major IT hardware companies having availed these authorizations. All received applications are being processed within the stipulated time frame, with no pending requests as of the current date."
This new licensing system applies to laptops, personal computers (including tablet computers), microcomputers, large or mainframe computers, and certain data processing machines, ensuring the security of India's trusted supply chain.
