NIA Moves Calcutta HC As West Bengal Police Summons Its Officials Involved In Raid At Bhupatinagar For Blast Case Investigation

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court to quash an FIR against its officials involved in a raid in West Bengal's Bhupatinagar as part of a blast case investigation.
Justice Jay Sengupta has granted permission to file the application, and the court will hear the matter in the post-recess session, according to NIA counsel Arun Kumar Mohanty.
The petition also seeks interim protection from any coercive action by the state police against the NIA officials, as per a report by The New Indian Express.
One of the officials was injured in an attack by a mob while returning from Bhupatinagar in East Midnapore district after arresting two persons in connection with a blast in December 2022, in which three persons died.
An FIR was lodged based on a complaint by the NIA officials at Bhupatinagar.
However, a case was initiated against the central agency officials following a complaint by some villagers, accusing them of theft and outraging the modesty of women.
The West Bengal Police has issued summons to the injured NIA officer to appear before the investigating officer of the Bhupatinagar police station on 11 April.
The police have also requested the NIA to bring the damaged vehicle allegedly involved in the attack for a forensic test.
