A Nihang Sikh killed a man in Punjab's Kapurthala district allegedly over the suspicion that he committed sacrilege at the Gurdwara Sri Chaura Khooh Sahib in Phagwara on Monday (15 January) night.
The accused, Ramandeep Singh Mangu Math, recorded and uploaded a video of the man prior to killing him and then locked himself inside the gurdwara.
Math claimed that the man admitted in a video that he had been sent to the gurdwara to commit sacrilege.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found the body of the unidentified man who is accused of committing sacrilege at the gurdwara. As of now, the police have not yet apprehended the accused, Indian Express reported.
Nihang Sikhs are a quasi-monastic group armed with traditional weapons, tasked with protecting the Sikh faith and religion.
This is the second incidence of violence involving Nihang Sikhs in Kapurthala in the past three months.
Earlier in November, a policeman was killed after a group of Nihangs opened fire at cops trying to clear encroachments inside a gurdwara at the centre of a dispute between two factions.
