As parts of Delhi experienced severe flooding due to the rising level of Yamuna, BJP MP and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Thursday (13 July) slammed the Arvind Kejriwal government and called on the people of Delhi to "wake up" and take note of the deteriorating condition of the city.
"Wake up Delhiites. Delhi has become a gutter. Nothing is for free, this is the PRICE!!," the East Delhi MP tweeted, taking a veiled dig at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's schemes to provide free utilities to the residents of the national capital.
BJP leaders have been blaming the CM Kejriwal led AAP government responsible for the flood-like situation, accusing it of mismanagement and lack of preparedness.
In response, the AAP government stated that the unprecedented rise in the water level of Yamuna is the main cause for the flooding.
To address the flooding in key areas, including the VIP zone near the Chief Minister's residence and Delhi Assembly, the administration has implemented emergency measures to mitigate the situation. These measures aim to provide relief and assistance to those affected by the floods.
The water level in Yamuna was 208.62 metres, around 3 m above the danger mark, at 1 pm today as Hathnikund barrage in Haryana continues to release water into the river.
The Kejriwal government had urged the centre to step in and stop the water discharge, but the centre replied that excess water from the barrage had to be released. The water discharge is expected to reduce later in the day, reports NDTV.
The Haryana barrage has filled up due to very heavy rain further north in Himachal Pradesh. The monsoon has brought large-scale destruction in the hill state, bringing down homes and sweeping away bridges.
