Now AI-Powered Mannequins Will Spot Traffic Offenders And Drunk Drivers, Fine Them On Bengaluru’s Roads

Silicon city Bengaluru will soon have artificial intelligence-empowered mannequins that look like cops to man the city. In a bid to curb crime in the city, dummy cops which have already been put in place will now be empowered with artificial intelligence.
Mannequins with cameras fixed into artificial eyes will be placed on a rotational basis around the city.
The cameras with small AI-likened computing devices inside them for facial recognition through a well-connected central server will help spot traffic offenders, fine drunk drivers and enable better handling of law and order in the city, as reported.
The robotic mannequin is being said to replace constables and perform their everyday routine functions so that they can be utilised for more important tasks. The latest innovative approach has also grabbed the attention of the American and French police departments who have visited the city to study them.
This is the latest in the various police reforms that are being introduced in the city, which also took to TikTok recently to connect with the public. “Bangalore Police has always believed in the power of social media to build a connect with citizens. We were one of the first city police departments to come onto social media to create fun and informative content,” said city police commissioner Bhaskar Rao, as quoted here.
Calling Bengaluru the ‘ideal location’ for ‘pioneering modern police enforcement practices’, Rao also mentioned the increasing number of engineers who are joining the police force as constables and sub-inspectors. Even the wing of the city’s police that takes care of weapons and guards property, the CARP (City Armed Reserve Police Force), has 37 engineers working as constables, as reported.
