Odisha Train Accident: CRB Updates PMO About Latest Situation At Accident Site Amid Railways Appeal For Identification Of Bodies

Chairman Railway Board AK Lahoti, on Monday (5 June) briefed the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) about the latest situation at the accident site while a CBI team is on its way to Balasore to begin the probe into the possible reasons, including human interference, in the malfunctioning of the signalling system.  

Commissioner Railway Safety (CRS) has started questioning the concerned railway personnel including station master, after arriving at the accident site at Bahanaga in Odisha.

FIR was registered by GRP in Cuttack under section 153, 154 and 175 of the Railway Act against unknown persons in the Balasore train accident. FIR was registered following a complaint by Sub-Inspector Papu Kuma Naik of Balasore GRPS in Odisha.

Restoration of both up and down lines and reconnecting the overhead equipment are almost over, enabling the train movement in the section.

Meanwhile, Indian Railways has appealed for identification of the deceased in the rail accident in Odisha. With the support of Odisha Government, links of photos of deceased, those admitted in hospitals and unidentified bodies are made available.

In order to facilitate the families of those who are still unaware about the whereabouts of their relatives in the unfortunate train accident in Bahanaga, Odisha, Indian Railways with the support of Odisha Government has taken an initiative to locate them.

The Railways has provided a link of photos of the deceased in the tragic Bahanaga Rail Accident in Odisha and also the link of lists-of-passengers-undergoing-treatment-in-different-hospitals.

Link of unidentified persons under treatment at SCB Cuttack has also been provided by the Railways.

Railway Helpline number 139 is working round the clock for connecting the families/ relatives of passengers affected in this rail accident.

Municipal Commissioner office, Bhubaneswar, has established a control room, from where, with vehicles, people will be directed to either hospital or mortuary as the case may be. Officials have been deployed to facilitate the same.
