Over 60 Per Cent Of BJP's Contributions Came From Electoral Bonds, Congress' Intake Decreases; Here's About Other Regional Parties

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) garnered nearly Rs 1,300 crore through electoral bonds during the fiscal year 2022-23, marking a significant increase compared to the Congress, which received a fraction of that amount through the same channel during the same period as per a report by NDTV.
According to the BJP's annual audited report submitted to the Election Commission, the party's total contributions amounted to Rs 2,120 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23, with a substantial 61 per cent of it coming from electoral bonds.
This figure represents a stark contrast to the Congress's financial intake from electoral bonds, which amounted to Rs 171 crore, down from Rs 236 crore in the previous fiscal year.
In comparison, the BJP's total income for the fiscal year 2022-23 reached Rs 2,360.8 crore, a notable increase from Rs 1,917 crore in the preceding fiscal year.
Notably, other political entities such as the Samajwadi Party and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) also saw fluctuations in their financial intake from electoral bonds.
While the Samajwadi Party received no contributions from electoral bonds in the fiscal year 2022-23, the TDP witnessed a significant surge, earning Rs 34 crore from electoral bonds, marking a tenfold increase from the previous fiscal year.
Additionally, the BJP's earnings from interests experienced a considerable rise, amounting to Rs 237 crore in the last fiscal year compared to Rs 135 crore in the preceding year.
Regarding expenditure, the BJP allocated Rs 78.2 crore for the use of aircraft and helicopters for election and general propaganda, a decrease from Rs 117.4 crore in the previous fiscal year.
Furthermore, the party provided financial assistance to candidates, amounting to Rs 76.5 crore, down from Rs 146.4 crore in the previous fiscal year, with this assistance categorised under the head of 'total payments'.
