P C George Merges His Party 'Kerala Janapaksham Secular' With BJP Ahead Of Lok Sabha Elections

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, P C George, the chief of Kerala Janapaksham (Secular), merged his party into the BJP on Wednesday (31 January).
The merger event saw George, his son Shaun, and other leaders of Kerala Janapaksham (Secular) officially joining the BJP at the party headquarters in Delhi.
Union Ministers V Muraleedharan, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and BJP leader and in-charge of Kerala unit Prakash Javadekar, party national secretary Anil Antony attended the event.
"Today, Kerala Janapaksham (Secular) led by P C George is merging with the BJP, showing full confidence in our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji's vision to transform India into 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047," BJP national secretary Anil Antony said at a press conference at the party headquarters.
Welcoming George into the BJP fold, Antony said that the merging of Janapaksham will be the start of a "historic trajectory" in Kerala "where the BJP will grow more and more, and contribute towards the prime minister's mission to transform India into a developed country".
George had earlier said that the 'general sentiments' of his party workers are in favor of joining the BJP, and that a decision in this regard will be made before the Lok Sabha polls.
George, who represented Poonjar seat in the Kerala assembly seven time in over 30 years long political career, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and said that India has never had such an accomplished Prime Minister, and that the opinion among party ranks is to support him.
"Our party members wish for this merger. India is fortunate to have one of the best prime ministers in its history. Party activists have opined that we should support him. Seat is not the priority here. If BJP asks me to compete I shall. If not, that is also fine. We are hoping to arrive at a decision before the Lok Sabha polls," George had said ahead of a meeting with BJP leaders on Tuesday.
